Scott Saalman will having a book signing of his newest publication, “Quietly Making Noise” on Saturday, June 8 from 11:00am-12:00pm in the Larry Beatty Room at the Tell City location at the Perry County Public Library. Scott will have books available to purchase at that time as well for $20 a piece.
Hoosier-native Saalman is a long-time freelance columnist and essayist. His columns and essays have appeared in the Dubois County Free Press, the Dubois County Herald, the Evansville Courier & Press, The Ferdinand News, The Perry County News, Evansville Living magazine, Louisville Courier-Journal SCENE magazine, Airplane Reading, Lost magazine, Perry County News, Newport News Daily Press & Times Herald, and the Hamilton County Reporter. One essay aired on the Bob Edwards Show (Sirius/XM), and one was referenced on the “Notable Essays” list in The Best American Essays 2012. His audio humor essays have aired on WNIN 88.3 public radio (Evansville). His essays also appeared in two anthologies: Home Again: Essays and Memoirs from Indiana (Indiana Historical Society Press, 2006) and This I Believe: On Love (John Wiley & Sons, 2011). His essay, “Do Not Endure Verbal, Emotional, or Physical Abuse,” appeared in The Morning News. His essays have also appeared in Twin City PBS’ Next Avenue and AARP Veteran Report (read here) and on the Indiana Humanities Web site. He has six previous essay collections: Nose Hairs Gone Wild; Will Write For Food; Mr. Serious; Column Writing Is Not Pretty; What Are You Going To Write About When I’m Gone?, and Quietly Making Noise. He co-edited Vietnam War Love Story: The Love Letters of Bill and Nancy Young (1967), published in 2022. His benefit show Will Read and Sing For Food, which features humor writers and live music, has raised $170,000 for dozens of charities, mostly in southern Indiana. He’s currently debuting a new comedy benefit show, “Wait . . . what?” He resides in Fishers, Indiana, and is Director of Social Responsibility for Kimball Electronics Inc., a global company based in Jasper, Indiana.
