Join us on Wednesday, May 21st at 4pm at the Perry County Public Library. Katie Pappano will be presenting: The Lost History of the Flatboat. The Treaty of Paris that ended the Revolutionary War, gave the United States land from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi River. Millions of pioneers, immigrants and colonists, made their way to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where a thriving boat building industry existed. They would purchase a flatboat and head down the Ohio River to claim land and settle. Come and hear about life in the flatboat era of our history. A project to build a flatboat named The Abraham, in honor of Abraham Lincoln, is currently underway. This boat will be a replica of the flatboat that Abraham Lincoln took from Rockport, Indiana, to New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1828 to sell the area produce. The Abraham will do the historical reenactment trip in 2028 for the 200-year anniversary of Lincoln’s trip.
